Lethal brain injuries produced by compressed-air weapon – case presentation

M. Popa, D. Popescu

Abstract: Lethal brain injuries produced by compressed-air weapon – case presentation Although compressed-air weapons are considered by law as part of the category of non-lethal weapons, in some cases they can produce thanato-generating lesions, for instance when the pellet enters the skull through the orbit, with secondary cerebro-meningeal dilacerations. The projectile is a pellet type Diabolo, brand RWS, shot with a Walther PP 88 pistol, caliber 4.5 millimeters. This case is one of several cases that sped-up the modification of law 295/2004 regarding the guns and ammunition policy by the Government emergency ordinance 26/17.03.2008 that enforces much more restrictive judiciary conditions for some weapon categories that are considered nonlethal by the law.
Keywords: Walther pistol, RWS Diabolo pellet, brain laceration, Law 295/2004, OUG 26/2008.
